Dehelly’s or Carrel’s Vein Dilator was designed to facilitate introduction of a bloodtransfusion canula into a vein.  It employs a complex series of plates arranged in a serial scissor like manner that draws the blades apart in such a manner that they remain equidistant from each other and thus permitting introduction of a Tuffier’s or Carrel’s canula in preparation for blood transfusion.
