An example of the classical pattern attributed to Edward William Murphy (1802-1877), Professor of Midwifery, University College London, obstetrician, and former assistant physician to the Dublin Lying-in Hospital.  Constructed of plated steelwith a screw pivot and smooth ebony handles.  The upper and lower blades are provided with serrations in addition to which the lower blade is fenestrated to grasp thicker soft tissues with less damage.
