Early medicine spoons are rare as medicines were first sold in single dose bottles.  It was not until well into the 18th century that larger bottles made spoons of an accurate size popular.  Early ones are mostly silver and by the end of the 18th century pewter spoons were being made.  Early Victorian spoons were double-ended for two dose sizes and were part of most toilet services.
