The earliest printed textbook formidwifes was written by Eucharius Rosslin (d.1526?) of Worms. First published in Germany, Die swangern Frawen und hebammen Rosengarten was dedicated to Princess Katherine of Saxony and was granted a copyright by Emperor Maximilian in 1513. It survived 40 editions, being used as late as 1730.
