Curettes are either spoon-shaped or fenestrated with blunt or sharp edges.  The shank may be of soft or tempered steel or of copper.  Handles are often marked or serrated upon one side, so the surgeon is always aware of the position of the cutting edge. A typical example, nickel plated, signed Tiemann.
