The virtues of Russell’s Urine Test Case were extolled in an extract from St. Thomas’ Gazette - “ This case, which is made to fit the pocket, contains the following necessities:  2- test tubes, vial for acetic acid, vial for Fehling’s solution,  books of red and blue litmus paper.  It is well known that the urine is not examined as a matter of routine in general practice because there was not a handy apparatus for the purpose.”
