The Pill Silverer or Coater is a globular or spherical container that may be split in two to reveal a smooth inner surface. The pills were coated with mucilage such as acacia and syrup then placed in the device along with gold or silver leaf and shaken until uniformly coated. They were generally used throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.
