Syrupus Ipecacuanhae or Syrup of Ipecac is derived from the root of Cephaelis ipecacpuanha or acuminata, a small plant found in Brazil and Columbia. Typically employed as an emetic, nauseant, irritant, expectorant or diaphoretic.  Its primary use was as an emetic, being safe, efficient and non-depressant, though slow of action.
