Weiss’ Patent Phleme -- a most rare phlebotomy instrument, English, c. 1830, signed with a crowned ”GR” (for King George the IV, reigned 1820-1830) and “Weiss’s Patent Phleme London”. The instrument is made of steel, with brass fittings and a checkered pressed horn handle signed “WEISS. LONDON.”, and measures 18 cm. overall. It features a large spring loaded cocking lever, removable blade with spring return and relatively small tip, large release lever, thumb pad and adjustable brass depth guard.
