Sims’ Depressor consists of a malleable copper loop and shaft with a smooth ebony handle at its distal end.  By virtue of its being made of copper, it can easily be adjusted to suit the needs of the operator.   “Another plan of bringing the os tincae into view is to draw the neck forwards by pressure in the anterior cul-de-sac with this instrument, which I call the uterine depressor.”  Sims - Uterine Surgery 1858.
