Phrenology is the ‘science’  of assessingan individuals personality and sensibilitiesthrough examination of the contours of the skull. Introduced by J.F. Gall (1758-1828), this pseudo-sciencegained rapid popularity to the early 20th C and depicted the location of more than thirty mental faculties.  Pottery busts depicting the location of the mental faculties are found from the mid 19th Century.
