Edme Gilles Guyot (1706-1786) was the first to attempt catheterization of the Eustachian tube by way of the mouth and is credited with a number of instruments.
A fine example of Guyot’s intriguing and innovative instrument that functions as both needle and needle-holder to facilitate the placement of a running-locking stitch in astaphylorrhaphy operation.  Signed Charriere on the ebony handle.
