Velpeau’s Tonsillotome differs from Mathieu’s design in the action of its cutting blade whereby a sliding curved bistoury, hinged upon end, is drawn against the tonsil by traction on the instruments handle.  Thus, all the advantages of a sliding knife blade are secured in its operation.  - 1899 Truax
