A variety of Uvulatomes were devised to grasp and excisethe uvula while at the same time preventing the uvula from being dropped down the throat.

Most were in the form of a clamp or guillotine with a sliding knife operated either by spring or thumb and finger movement.  More elaborate designs such as this, incorporated a successful means for arresting hemorrhage after excision of the uvula.
