Canulated Silver Wire Needles are constructed from steel tubing, pointed like an aspirating needle, and designed in such a manner that once the needle has been passed through the tissues to be sutured, the wire may be advanced through the needle cannula, grasped and held, such that once the instrument is withdrawn the wire will remain in situ.  Subsequently, other specialized instruments including:  wire twister, lead shot, shot compressor, and a wire cutter were needed to properly secure the wound.
