A rare and potentially unique mechanically driven rotating helical needle powered by a petit crank at the proximal end of its checquered ebony handle that acts upon a shaft connecting to a rack and pinion at the distal end that rotates the fenestrated needle to the desired position.  Once the needle has been passed through the tissues to be sutured, the wire may be pushed through the needle canula, where it may be grasped and held, so that after withdrawal of the needle the wire remains insitu.
