Reece’s Artificial Leech is a combination scarificator and exhausting pump which incorporates a lancet that passes directly through the center of the piston and plunger.  The lancet is controlled by a spring and threaded screw in such a manner that the perforation may be made after or during the exhaustion of air.  In some models the cylinder is graduated, the amount of blood extracted being noted from time to time.
