A case mounted “Auatic” Microscope, French, c. 2/4 19th century, unsigned but nearly identcal to one by Gabriel Augustin Chevallier (1778-1848) with the label- “Optocoen du Roi et des Princes, Tour de l’Horloge du Palais No. 1 vis a vis la March aus Fleurs Paris” pictured in Tesseract Cat. 80, item 11.  The microscope features a racked vertical limb, swiveling and thumb-screw extending objective lens arm, 4 objectives, dove-tailed circular stage holder, interchangeable concave and planeglass stage and steel with glass aperture stage, with gimbaled mirror below, 3 dissecting needles. and all contained in a fitted mahogany case with drawer - VFC.
