A handsome Coddington Lens Outfit, Continental, c. 1830, the single biconvex glass lens 1-1/4” in diameter and 1” thick, with deeply waisted center, mounted in a turned brass cell with finely turned handle of ebonized wood and brass.  It offers high magnification and a wide field of view.  Measuring 20 cm overall, it disassembles to stow in its wonderful shaped wood case covered in green Morocco leather and lined in blue silk and velvet with gilt paper stringing.  A most handsome magnifier, of the type developed by David Brewster (1820) and Henry Coddington (1829) - VFC.
