Elaborate Naturalist’s Drum Microscope Outfit by J.H. Steward, English, third quarter 19th century, contained in its original mahogany case with fitted interior and faded red velvet lining the lid.  The instrument is constructed of clear lacquered brass, and features racked focus, three element eyepiece, six objectives, and spring stage accommodating sliders, fish tube, live cells and opaque stages.  Original accessories present include, stage-top bullseye condenser, stage-mounted specimen forceps, glazed live box, stage inserts, hand magnifier, thumb forceps, brass can, 3 ivory sliders and watch glass.
