A nice case-mounted Cary-Gould Type Microscope, English, second quarter 19th century. Constructed of clear lacquered brass, and mounted atop a mahogany box containing a fitted lift-out tray covered with velvet. It has a vertical pillar with racked stage assembly for focus, fixed lens support arm and fixed gimbal mounted concave mirror below, there are three stacked objectives to permit varying magnifications. The compound tube, with its double element eyepiece, can be mounted above the stacked lenses. Accessories include stage forceps-needle, thumb forces, dissecting needle, glass tube, 2 ivory sliders, live well, ivory opaque disc, can for brass slide rings and glass stage inserts.
