Blennostasine was prepared and marketed by McKesson & Robbins, Manufacturing Chemists for the treatment of diseases characterized by the hypersecretion of mucous.  Accordingly, it was advertised as a cure for acute coryza, influenza, laryngeal and bronchial colds and hay fever.  Thought to be superior to quinine, belladonna or other similar remedies.  Blennostasine is a vasomotor constrictor that acts directly on the mucous membranes to arrest the secretion of mucous.  The results are “magical.”
