Among the numerous habit-forming nostrums listed in the “Report of the President’s Homes Commission’s List” was Dr. Pierces Compound Extract of Smart Weed.  In addition to opium, other constituents included Smart-Weed, Jamaica Dogwood, Gum Camphor and Jamaica Ginger.  The compound was intended for the relief of acute abdominal pains.
