Prunoids were manufactured by the Sultan Drug Company, St. Louis, MO and were comprised of phenolphthalein, cascara sagrada, de-emetinized ipecac and prunes.  They could be chewed, allowed to dissolve in the mouth or swallowed whole and were recommended for use as a laxative or deobstruent and are particularly well adapted for the treatment of constipation.
