Jules Emile Pean:  1830-1898 studied medicine in Paris under Nelaton and was a pioneer performing ovariotomy and vaginal hysterectomy.  He appreciated the importance of surgical hygiene and popularized the hemostat that remains in use in operating rooms around the world.
