Scoop Paracentesis Trocars consist of a sharply pointed shaft within a canula that terminates in a scoop or spout of such form that it may be used to conduct the flow of liquid into a basinor other receptacle. Generally used for tapping without a vacuum force. They are employed to puncture the wall of a cyst, organ or abscess for the purpose of evacuating any contained fluid. Once the instrument was successfully placed, the trocar was withdrawn allowing the canula to remain in place, thus supplying a channel for fluid escape.
An example of Pean’s form, with bulbous ebony handle and silver canula, unmarked, VFC.
