Anastomosis buttons or couplers unite severed portions of hollow viscera, usually without sutures.  When in situ they are contained wholly within the canal, held in place by pressure exerted against the inverted wound margins.  Eventually these margins slough off, thus freeing the margins and permitting its expulsion per rectum.  They are employed in intestinal resections and Anastomosis operations.
