A wonderful example of an elaborate Bone Exsecting Outfit by America’s premier surgical instrument maker, contained in a brass-bound mahogany case with fitted interior layers lined with red oil-dyed velvet.  The case is held closed by a sliding latch typical of military sets. The oval label is embossed gold on black – “G. Tiemann & Co. Manufacturers of Surgical Instruments, 63 Chatham St. N.Y.” and corresponds to the period 1855 to 1864. Instruments are of polished steel, signed Tiemann in Gothic script.
