Sayer’s Periosteotome is well suited to detaching the periosteum in operations about the hip-joint and elsewhere, and it is a capital instrument for detaching the muco-periosteal membrane in an operation for cleft palate.  This is a heavy, solid, steel instrument, somewhatreminiscent of an oyster knife.
