Christian Albert Theodor Billroth (1829-1894) was a Prussian-born Austrian surgeon considered to be the founder of modern abdominal surgery subsequent to his successful resection of a cancerous pylorus in 1881 (Morton - 3474) that caused a great sensation and his book - “Die Ilgemeine chirurgische Pathologie und Therapie - 1863”  that was translated into many languages.
