The Scoop Trocar consists of a sharp pointed shaft emerging from a bulbous ebony handle and cannula with a scoop or spout at its proximal end so that it may serve to conduct the flow of liquid into a basin or other suitable receptacle.  The finest of these instruments are provided with a metallic cap by means of which the point is protected from damage when not in use.  They are ordinarily manufactured in sizes ranging from 12 to 21 French.
