A particularly fine English trepanning set, 3RD quarter 18th C, signed on the knife – “Stodart”, est. 1787. This set is contained in the original hand-dovetailed, red velvet lined, fitted mahogany case (11’’ x 6 ½’’ x 2’’) in excellent condition. Present is a complete trepanation set of polished tools with beautifully turned walnut handles. Included are two cutting trephines of different diameters, each with a central pin; key for removing the central pins; arrowhead perforator; two different lenticulars; a scalpel; articulated tripod elevator; Samuel Sharp’s double-jawed craniotomy forceps; and an ivory bone brush.
