Malpositions of the uterus were thought to need manual or instrumental replacement followed by the application of supports or braces to retain normalcy. For this purpose a variety of pessaries were devised. They were often fashioned from hard rubber on account of its lightness, malleability with heat, and the high polish that can be obtained.  Optimal fitting requires many trials. An unusual articulated mechanical form not yet identified, vulcanite, VFC.
