“We often find small polypi in the canal of the cervix. … They may be very effectually destroyed bymechanicalpressurefrom a sponge tent worn for 24 hours, or they may be cut off with a scissors; I prefer the latter.  We often fail in the extraction of small mucousor cystic polypi for the want of a suitable instrument.  Dr McClintoc uses a fenestrated forceps for these, which answers quite admirably…by compressing the pedicle, while the little polpus lies unhurt in the fenestral opening…and gently rotating till all resistance ceases, when we remove the severed growth.”   Marion Sims - Uterine Surgery 1858.
