Fitch’s Applicator, as with other forms was used with a vaginal or cervical speculum to apply various medications to the vagina or intrauterine cavity.  However,  Fitch’s design is provided with an elastic spiral sheath, by which a medicated swab or uterine sponge tent may be easily detached from the tip of the instrument without contaminating the fingers. Truax- fig. 1188.
A nice example, unsigned, with a smooth and chequered ebony handle, aluminum shaft flattened at the distal end and surrounded by a non-ferous spiral sheath with wood buttons at either end. FC.
