Recamier employed his device to visualize and identify ulcerations and cancers of the cervix and vagina and to apply remedies including:  caustics such as arsenic paste, silver nitrate, nitrate of mercury, creosote, muriate of gold; honey of roses, syrup of carrots and extract of opium.  “I owe to these dressings, the amelioration of all the ulcers of the uterus and vagina..., the prolongation of the lives of several women afflicted with uterine and vaginal cancers” - M. Recamier.

A fine and exceedingly rare example of Recamier’s original form in pewter rather than tin, VFC.
