Tiemann & Co.’s Quatrivalve Speculum represents the later of two designs developed by this American maker. Their design included a novel and secure method for disengaging the anterior and posterior blades in-situ by means of a thumb-screw. That this could be accomplished without removing the instrument from the vagina was an improvement over Segalas’ earlier pattern.
