4.99

Early wrought iron speculum with crank handle, Continental, c. 16th C.  This large instrument has a fixed length of 344mm and 153mm blades.  Handle is of finely turned horn or well patinated hardwood.  A significant early example thatis remarkably similar to a woodcut of a vaginal speculum in a text on hernias (1561) by the French Huguenot, Pierre Franco.
