The central instrument in gynaecology both for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes is the vagina speculum. Its origins likely predate Hippocrates when diagnosis rested solely on inspection, palpation and auscultation.
John Weiss established his business in 1787 and at some time thereafter offered this form in consideration of and keeping with earlier forms.
