A rather petit and scarce bivalve form that emulates the design of Sims’ rectal speculum.  Constructed of nickel over brass with blued-steel pivot screw, spring and notched shaft that secures the position of the blades by means of a thumb-screw. The handles bear cross-hatched engraving typical of mid-nineteenth century instruments.  Signed “W.
