Crosby's pattern incorporates jaws that can accommodate curved needles of varying size but only at an angle perpendicular to the jaws.  The handle permits a full-handed grasp and each terminates in a catch so adjusted that the two form a lock when the handles are pressed together and that may be instantly released by squeezing the handles further in a single motion.
