Simon’s Right Angle Blunt Knife as illustrated in Aloes’ 1896 catalog was intended for use in the repair of vesicovaginal fistulas. Its blunt tip allowed for the paring away of the necrotic margins of the fistulous defect while providing a certain degree of protection to underlying structure that might otherwise be perforated by a sharp-tipped knife.
