Bozeman’s - Simon’s version of Sims’ Specula consists of two handles, which may be attached to any one of eight different blades. Half of the blades are of a Sims-type pattern while the remaining are of a flat or so-called retracting type. Together the complete set forms a convenient outfit for either examination or surgery. The attachment of the handle is by means of a slip joint, separated by a thumb-switch and is easily cleaned. The proximal end of the grip terminates in a strong curve that facilitates comfort during long cases. Such patterns are largely used by German operators in the dorsal position - 1888 Truax p.442
