Blunt hooks were designed to assist in guiding and stabilizing the suture needle as it emerges from the tissue and before it is grasped by the needle forceps.  Also, certain forms were well suited to use as a blunt tenaculum.  There is often considerable variation in design from one instrument manufacturer to the next as evidenced by the variety of examples in the collection.
